Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S22: Design, Display, and Colors

Samsung S23 and Samsung S22 phones come with the same screen size of 6.1 inches for the standard model, and 6.6 inches for the Plus model, but with some aesthetic differences in terms of design.

The Galaxy S23's cameras are separated on the back, but the Galaxy S22 has grouped them together into a rectangular camera block. Samsung also changed the colors between the previous generation and the new one.

The Galaxy S23 can be purchased in (Phantom Black / Cream / Green / Lavender), while the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are available in the following colors: (Phantom Black / Phantom White / Green / Pink Gold / Bora Purple).

The screens on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S22 offer FHD resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 48Hz to 120Hz. One small change is that the Galaxy S23 has a maximum brightness of 1,750 nits, while the regular Galaxy S22 has a peak brightness of 1,300 nits.

Another difference between the old and new phones is that the new models come with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection glass on the front and back, instead of the Gorilla Glass Victus Plus found in the Galaxy S22. That should mean increased durability for the new phone along with better looks and higher screen protection.

Difference between them is in terms of the Camera

The camera in the Samsung S23 phone has not been upgraded from the previous generation, and both models have almost the same rear camera.

In terms of camera specifications, both phones include a 50-Megapixel main camera, a 12-Megapixel secondary camera, and a 10-Megapixel Telephoto camera. Both of them support 8K@24fps video recording.

According to what Samsung announced, it has improved the Nightography low-light mode and added new features such as an astronomical hyperlapse mode to capture stars for long periods of time, and 8K recording at 30 frames per second for smoother video.

The only new camera on the Galaxy S23 can be found on the front, as it uses a 12MP sensor instead of the 10MP sensor in the previous model, and should therefore produce more vibrant and detailed selfies with Super HDR for better color and contrast.

Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22: Performance

The Galaxy S22 comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in the United States of America, while it comes with an Exynos 2200 processor for the rest of the world markets.

As for the Galaxy S23, it comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for all markets, which provides a new feature for the Samsung S23 series.

The company provided (RAM) with a capacity of only 8 GB in the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23, which is not large, but it should still provide adequate multitasking performance. Storage on the Galaxy S23 starts at 128GB and goes up to 256GB, as with the previous generation, but the S23 Plus gets a boost in storage. It now starts at 256GB and goes up to a maximum of 512GB for storage.

You can get One UI 5.1 with Android 13 on the Galaxy S23 series, knowing that Galaxy S22 phones will be able to update to it soon as well. However, since it's newer, Samsung's 4-year Android update schedule will bring the S23 to Android 17, while the S22 will theoretically stop at Android 16.

One UI 5.1 includes capabilities like Bixby Text Call to let you reply to a caller with text messages, while Modes introduces iOS Focus to manage notifications and available apps by time of day.

It's not yet clear which of them are exclusive to the Galaxy S23, and which will appear on other phones compatible with One UI 5.1.
