How to Enable PS5 3D audio on TV Speakers

In this report, we show you the steps to activate the 3D sound or surround sound feature on the TV speakers through the PlayStation 5 gaming device.

Enable 3D sound on PlayStation 5

Spatial sound or 3D sound is an immersive audio experience that's a lot like surround sound but a little better.

For example if you are playing a game and a scene has a helicopter in the sky, it will feel like the helicopter is right over your head.

This feature makes the sound immersive around you in a 360-degree angle, as if you were inside the event or the recording studio itself.

Initially, this feature was only supported for headphones, which can automatically adapt to head movements and tilts, then dynamically track the angle of the head and make the sound appear to be coming from all around you from different angles and corners.

For a long time the feature was exclusive to headphones and it still is on Windows 11 PCs.

But recently, Sony was able to bring spatial audio on the PS5 to TVs as well, which is great if you don't prefer to wear a headset all the time.

Now it is possible to live the immersive audio experience and enjoy the spatial sound feature on the built-in speakers of your TVs by adjusting the settings of the PlayStation 5.

Sony's Spatial Audio is a positive answer to Dolby Atmos and is a 3D audio experience that enhances and enhances sound clarity in all corners of your room through the TV's built-in speakers.

Sony was able to take advantage of the microphone built into the DualSense controller to measure the sound level in the place around you and provide the best possible 3D sound.

This feature is not turned on by default, but you will have to enable it manually through your PS5 settings.

Just head to the PlayStation 5 settings by clicking on the Settings button, then click on Sound, then click on Sound Output.

Now you will find yourself in a menu that contains many settings and you should find the word TV in front of the Output Device option.

But in the middle of the screen you will find the TV option, under which there are three different options - as shown in the previous image - including the option “Enable 3D Audio for TV Speakers”, “Apply Measurements Results to 3D Audio” and “Measure Room Acoustics for 3D Audio”.

Of course, you will need to enable the first option, which is Enable 3D Audio for TV Speakers. But what's the point of the other two options?

It's best to rely on Apply Measurements Results to 3D Audio to measure the sound of your room and deliver the best possible audio experience.

Once you choose this option, the following screen will appear to you - similar to the previous image - and within it are some instructions stating that you have to update the DualSense controller with the latest update currently available.

If your console already has the latest update, you can click the Next button and follow the onscreen instructions.

Set the 3D sound feature

Try as much as possible to keep your room completely quiet during this phase so that the DualSense controller can accurately measure the sound parameters and dimensions of the room.

At the same time, it is essential that the TV volume is set to the volume mode that you always play on. If you play at 50 degrees permanently, the TV sound should be at 50, and so on.

Once you've set the TV's volume and made sure the room is completely quiet, click the Next button to start the calibration process. In this case, the TV will start beeping, which will be received by the DualSense controller through the built-in microphone. Once you are done with the audio calibration process, make sure that Apply Measurement Results to 3D Audio is checked.

Conclusion

Actually this is all in order to activate the 3D sound through the TV speakers while playing games on the PlayStation 5.

If you run into any issues during the audio calibration process, you can always set it up again. The audio experience is sure to get better - albeit in a small way.

But if you are not happy with the results, you can always disable it through the same steps we have outlined in this report.
