A comparison showing the difference between Apple Vision Pro and Sony Playstation VR 2

The Apple Vision Pro glasses will be the first of its kind thanks to its ability to support VR & AR mixed reality visuals, and Apple went into many details about it during the announcement event. However, there are still many things and subtle details that we do not know yet about the Vision Pro glasses. But as we approach the official launch date, we will surely get more information that we lack about the glasses.

The Apple Vision Pro glasses are not the first augmented reality glasses that we are seeing launched this year. The Sony Playsation VR 2 glasses came before it earlier this year, causing users to be a little confused and hesitant about which glasses deserve an upgrade, especially since there is a huge difference in the price range between the two glasses.

Although there are many commonalities between both glasses, there are still some fundamental differences between the two glasses that make us able to help you determine which glasses are best for each individual user.

In this guide we'll give you a quick comparison between the two glasses - although we're still waiting to see Apple's glasses in action to provide more help.

But initially, we can clarify who is the target group of users with each of the Vision Pro and Playstation VR 2 glasses. Let us take you on a quick tour through which we show you the most prominent differences between the two glasses.

█ Apple Vision Pro supports augmented reality technology

First of all, the Sony Playstation VR 2 is a Virtual Reality headset. Although it has a Black and white interior, it lacks the advantage of capture quality, which means that it is not the ideal glasses for augmented reality uses.

But what does this mean? Basically, this means that the Playstation VR 2 glasses contain cameras that are only responsible for helping you locate your game consoles around the room and protecting you from bumping into a wall.

As for the Vision Pro glasses, it also supports augmented reality through a set of additional sensors, which gives the user the ability to see all virtual dimensions in the same virtual reality surroundings.

This is a core feature of the Apple Vision Pro that makes it a mixed reality headset. In other words, it is capable of simulating VR as well as AR.

As for the Sony Playstation VR 2 glasses, it does not support augmented reality, but only virtual reality.

█ The Playstation VR 2 glasses are specially designed for gamers

Playstation VR 2 glasses are specially designed for gamers

As we mentioned in the introduction a little while ago, both glasses target different categories of users – regardless of the value of each earphone.

But for the PlayStation VR 2 glasses, it is specially designed for gamers, thanks to its ability to support a large number of virtual reality games, including Resident Evil Village, Horizon Call Of The Mountain, and Beat Saber, among other games.

As for the Vision Pro glasses, we were surprised that Apple did not allude to the importance of using the glasses with games in any way. In fact, we're not even sure yet if the Vision Pro is equipped to run any virtual reality game.

During the WWDC 2023 conference, Apple discussed some basic details about the glasses, such as their importance in enhancing productivity and improving the world of luxury and entertainment for users. But she did not go into any details about the player community in detail.

The only indication from the company was only related to the Apple Arcade game group, but basically the Vision Pro glasses will not give us the 3D feature of virtual reality.

At first glance, you may think that the Apple glasses are already equipped for virtual reality functions, but it seems that Apple is targeting different areas through the Vision Pro glasses in order to replace laptops, such as using them, for example, in video conferences, blogging articles, and surfing the Internet.

On the other hand, the Sony Playstation VR 2 glasses were specially developed for the gaming world and the enthusiastic and hardcore gamer audience.

█ Apple Vision Pro adopts an internal processing chip

Apple Vision Pro glasses are based on an internal processing chip

During the event to announce the glasses, Apple stated that the Vision Pro glasses are equipped with two processing chips, which are the Apple M2 chip along with the R1 chip, which is responsible for protecting users from the problem of motion sickness. In principle, this means that you will not need an accompanying device such as an iPhone or any of the Mac devices in order to operate the Vision Pro glasses.

In contrast, the Playstation VR 2 glasses do not contain any processing chips, which means that you always have to connect them to the PlayStation 5 in order for them to work.

If this means anything, it means one very important thing, which is that the Playstation VR 2 glasses inevitably must work via cables, which may cause problems for users such as cable tripping while in harmony with games.

But the fact that the Vision Pro glasses contain a built-in processing chip does not necessarily mean that it is always the best, given that this processor works by means of a battery, which can run for up to two hours at the latest. Hence, you will inevitably need to connect it to a power source in order to operate it for longer periods of time.

█ Vision Pro is expensive, Playstaion VR 2 is not

Vision Pro glasses are very expensive

Perhaps one of the negative aspects that most users face with virtual reality glasses is that they are still very expensive, which makes them out of reach for middle and economical players. However, there is a huge rift or gap between both of these glasses in terms of price.

The Playstation VR 2 glasses are sold for only $ 550, while the Vision Pro glasses are about $ 3,500, which means that the Sony glasses are about $ 3,000 cheaper.

However, Apple can certainly justify the reason for the high price of the Vision Pro glasses. For example, the Vision Pro glasses are smaller, feature a microLED screen, and contain two high-end processor chips. Let's also not forget that the Apple glasses are equipped to deal with a more open and more complex operating system at the same time, allowing you to access a huge library of applications.

Certainly, Apple is trying to target a specific group of users, who are fans of the brand and loyal to the American apple logo. However, due to the low price of the Playstation VR 2 glasses, it targets the largest category of users and is able to entice a large number of players with tight and limited budgets.

Conclusion

At the end of our tour, it was a quick comparison between the Apple Vision Pro glasses and the Sony Playstation VR 2 glasses. There is a big gap in the price range between the two, but at the same time each glasses target a specific category of users.

While the PlayStation VR 2 is meant for the world of virtual reality gaming, the Vision Pro isn't — or at least that's what we think so far. The Vision Pro glasses are designed for users who want to access and interact with a huge library of applications in an augmented reality environment.
